Hungary is a landlocked country in Central Europe. The country offers many diverse destinations: relatively low mountains in the north-west, the Great Plain in the east, lakes and rivers of all sorts (including Balaton - the largest lake in Central Europe), and many beautiful small villages and hidden gems of cities. Top this off with Hungary's great accessibility in the middle of Europe, a vivid culture and economy, and you get a destination absolutely not worth missing if you're in the region. Hortobagy is an 800 km2 national park in eastern Hungary, rich with folklore and cultural history. Hortobágy is a steppe, a grassy plain with Hungarian Grey cattle, racka, water buffalo, sheep, and horses tended by herdsmen. It provides habitat for various species including 342 species of birds. The red-footed falcon, stone curlew, great bustard and aquatic warbler are represented by breeding populations. Its emblematic sight is the Nine-holed Bridge, and this is the place for traditional sweep wells.

Located in the northwestern part of Hungary, Gyor is a beautiful city in between Budapest and Vienna. Gyor Old Town center is designed around a lovely, large plaza. The Bésci Kapu Tér (Viennese Gate Square) is famed for its Baroque architecture and period attractions. As you stroll into the streets that converge around this plaza, you will admire all the beautiful architecture and designs of the buildings. Nearby, the Chapter Hill is close to the Bésci Kapu Tér and is known locally in Gyor as the Káptalan Domb, leading to the city's most historical district, the Apor Vilmos Püspöktere. And a wide range of landmarks and attractions line the banks of Gyor's Rába River.

Debrecen is Hungary's second largest city after Budapest, an important cultural center of country. Heavily destroyed during World War II, Debrecen is considered the intellectual center of the country, starting with the founding of Calvinist College in 1538, now known as the University of Debrecen. The main attractions include the Reformed Great Church sits on the expansive main square, Kossuth Tér. Nearby, the Museum of the Reformed College of Debrecen has exhibits on the history of the city and the college. The Déri Museum’s eclectic collection includes archaeological finds, centuries-old weapons, fine art.

Aggtelek National Park is a national park in Northern Hungary, in the Aggtelek Karst region. It covers a total area of 198.92 km² of which 39.22 km² are under increased protection. The most significant values of the national park are the special surface formations and underground caves in this limestone landscape. The park consists of 280 caves with different sizes. The most popular is Baradla cave (26 km long, of which 8 km is in Slovakia, known under the name of Domica). The park is a good place to see flora and fauna, and visit Jósvafő village: old village with houses typical in the region.

Heviz is a spa town in Zala County, Hungary. The literal translation of hé-víz is "hot water" and by extension "thermal water". This small town's main sight of interest is its hot-water lake that has recognised therapeutic properties and attracts an impressive number of spa patients. The water is beneficial for patients having joint, spine and inflammatory diseases. When you feel like seeing also something else then the town of Heviz and its thermal lake, visit the nearby little town of Keszthely. The main attraction of Keszthely is an amazingly big mansion built by the Festetics family in the 17th century.

Hungary’s ‘most faithful city’, Sopron has been both an Austrian and Hungarian city over the centuries, a 1921 vote decided it should be part of Hungary. In recent years, this little town also indirectly brought about the most dramatic event of the late 20th century – the fall of the Iron Curtain. Today it is the most beautiful town in western Hungary, its medieval Inner Town (Belváros) intact and its cobbled streets a pleasure to wander. Sopron is one of Hungary’s major wine producing regions, one of the few famous for both its red and white wines.

Eger is a historic town in Northern Hungary, situated between the Mátra and Bükk mountains. Founded by Hungary’s first Christian king, Saint Stephen, in the 10th century. Eger is best known for its castle (Egri Vár castle), thermal baths, baroque buildings, the northernmost Ottoman minaret, dishes and the best Hungarian red wines. When you plan your trip, it looks like a small town for which half a day is more than enough, but 3 days may not even be enough to enjoy it fully, even in the winter.

Pecs is an ancient city in southern Hungary, close to the Croatian border. Founded as Sopianae 2000 years ago by the Romans, today's Pecs is a pleasant small (but still one of the largest in Hungary) university town that has largely escaped the ravages of both communist-era architecture and modern-day mass tourism. It's known for its architectural landmarks such as the Early Christian Mausoleum, which features frescoed tombs. Vast Pecs Cathedral towers over central Szent István Square. The domed Mosque of Pasha Gazi Kasim was built in the 16th century during the Ottoman occupation of the city and is now a Catholic church.

Located  in western Hungary, Balaton is the largest lake in Central Europe. It’s a major holiday destination with beaches, volcanic hills, resort towns and high-rise hotels along its 197km shoreline. The hilly north shore is a wine-growing region, with protected wetlands and hiking trails at Balaton Uplands National Park. The town of Veszprém has a walled Castle district, and 13th-century frescoes at the Gizella Chapel.
