10. Mekong Delta

The Mekong Delta, also known as the Western Region is the region in southwestern Vietnam where the Mekong River approaches and empties into the sea through a network of distributaries. It is a vast maze of rivers, swamps and islands, home to floating markets, pagodas and villages surrounded by rice paddies. As all deltas, it receives the bounty of the siltation from the upper Mekong, and as such is a very rich and lush area, covered with rice fields. It produces about half of the total of Vietnam's agricultural output.

Ho Chi Minh City formerly named and still also referred to as Saigon is the largest city in Vietnam. It's known for its French colonial architecture, including Notre-Dame Basilica, made entirely of materials imported from France, and the neoclassical Saigon Central Post Office. Don't miss the impressive Jade Emperor Pagoda. Go to the frenetic Ben Thanh Market for food, flowers or frogs and nightlife.

Hanoi is the capital of Vietnam, and also its second largest city, is a fascinating blend of East and West, combining traditional Sino-Vietnamese motifs with French flair. At the heart of Hanoi is its Old Quarter, an open-air museum of historic Asian and French. There are many little temples, including Bach Ma, honoring a legendary horse, plus Dong Xuan market, selling household goods and street food, Grand Opera House, the Presidential Palace and Saint Joseph Cathedral.

Dalat or Da Lat located in the South Central Highlands of Vietnam, surrounded by hills, pine forests, lakes and waterfalls. Da Lat's specific sights are pine wood (forming the name: "City of thousands of pine trees") with twisting roads and tree marigold blossom in the winter. The city’s temperate weather stands in contrast to Vietnam's otherwise tropical climate. Mist covering the valleys almost year-round leads to its name "City of Eternal Spring". A walkable city, Dalat is a beautiful scene of French colonial architecture and villas set amid picturesque landscapes.

Nha Trang is Vietnam’s famous seaside resort-town. Located on one of Asia’s most beautiful bays off the coast of South Central. Known for picturesque mountains, beaches and lush islands all make it a favorite destination among tourists, Vietnamese and scuba divers. Its main beach is a long, curving stretch along Tran Phu Street, hotels and seafood restaurants. Cable cars cross over to Hon Tre island and the Vinpearl Resort, with a golf course, water park and fairground.

Situated on the coast of the Eastern Sea, at the opening end of the Han River, Da nang is the biggest city in Central Vietnam, is known for its sandy beaches and history as a French colonial port. It's a popular base for visiting the inland Bà Nà hills. Here the Hải Vân Pass has views of Da Nang Bay and the Marble Mountains, 5 limestone outcrops that are home to pagodas and caves containing Buddhist shrines. The city itself has neither the atmosphere of Hanoi nor the hustle-bustle of Ho Chi Minh City, but has its share of sights and is close to the charms of Hoi An and the imperial capital of Hue, making it a popular vacationing spot for those looking to explore the attractions of central Vietnam.

Located at 1500 meters (4921 feet) above sea level, Sapa is a beautiful, mountainous town in northern Vietnam. Surrounded by pictorial mountains, rice terraces and a diversity of hill tribes in the remote northwest. Sapa is a quiet town frequently used as a base for trekking in the Hoang Lien Son Mountains and touring rice paddies and traditional villages. As a result of a recent surge in popularity Sapa has rapidly become a tourist hotspot.

Ha Long Bay is more than 2,000 jungle-covered islands pitted with intriguing caves, grottoes, sinkholes and lakes. Many of the islands have been sculpted over the centuries by natural processes into fantastic formations. Ha Long Bay is often included in lists of natural wonders of the world.
